TDP
networks with organizations and individuals nationally and
internationally who are working in sustainable community development,
permaculture design, sustainable housing technologies, rural economic
development, sustainable agriculture, ecotourism, ecological land use
planning and human potential.
The TDP is
directly involved with the following organizations:
- TDP
is a member of PELUM. Pelum
in an organization with its regional offices located in Zimbabwe and
which is involved in promoting and supporting participatory
ecological land use management in Southern and Eastern Africa.
- Food
& Trees
For Africa (FTFA). TDP
has worked with FTFA since its inception in 1991.
FTFA is the leading organization working with urban greening

- The
TDP is a partner project of the Sustainable Homes Network (SHN).
The SHN consists of a number of partner organizations
including ESCOM (The South African Electrical Supply Commission),
IIEC-Africa (The International Institute for Energy Conservation),
Midrand Development Association and PEER Africa.
The SHN links sustainable housing builders, project
developers, and housing delivery organizations as well as the
supporting organizations such as architects, planners, suppliers,
and government officials concerned with low-income housing.
- The
TDP is a member of the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN).
The GEN is an emerging network of eco-village projects from
around the world. Ecovillages
represent a “Leading Edge” in the movement towards developing
sustainable human settlements and to provide a testing ground for
new ideas, techniques and technologies that can then be integrated
into community scale development.

- In
1997, TDP Director, Paul Cohen was elected to the Ashoka fellowship.
Ashoka is the first global association of leading social
entrepreneurs – talented, practical visionaries with the same
creativity and drive as leading business entrepreneurs but who
devote these qualities to solving social problems on a large scale.
Ashoka, through its Citizen Base Initiative, provides
creative resourcing opportunities to its fellows globally.

- In
January 2000, through the Ashoka creative resourcing initiative, TDP
began working with McKinsey Incorporated, one of the Leading Global
Corporate Consulting Firms. The aim of this partnership is to develop certain
financial strategies that will attract investment to the TDP.
- Paul
Cohen has been a member of the Living Tao Foundation for the past 13
years. Taoism is the
principle philosophy behind Permaculture and is based on the belief
that harmony and potential are found intrinsically in the natural
universe and within the body itself, waiting to be kindled through
creative awareness and supportive human relationships. Contact
